According to some media reports of Hong Kong on May 3th, "Sun Pulse II" , the world's largest solar plane left Bay Area of San Francisco, as planned to fly to Phoenix, Arizona. It started to travel the tenth area for the first-time global trip, which is also the first one in the continental United States at 5:03 of its local time on May 2rd.
It was reported that "Sun Pulse II" was designed by the Swiss, which is the first plane in the world only powered by solar energy and its storage day and night without any other fuels and any pollution. Its weight is over 5000 pounds (2, 268 kg), which is equivalent to the weight of one van or one medium truck. The wing width is 72 meters, longer than that of one Boeing airplane of 68.5 meters. Solar energy needed for the flight is produced by more than 17, 000 solar panels on the built-in airplane wings and stored in its lithium polymer batteries. The plane depends on the stored electricity for the evening flight.
"Sun Pulse II" was repoted to began its first flight around the world from Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on March 9, 2015, via Oman, India, Burma, China, Japan, Hawaii and other places. As there was no land of emergency stop, it is the most dangerous areas of flight across the Pacific from Hawaii to San Francisco. In addition, it is estimated that "Sun Pulse II" would fly to New York in mid-June.

Probably, affected gradually by the recent trend of power generation by green energy, French has been trying to reduce reliance on nuclear power in recent years. However, the amount of solar installation in France still lags behind that in Germany, Spain, Italy and other European countries as its renewable energy development are in a fledgling state.
It looks like that France was aware of this point. Then,French National Assembly passed a new law on March 19, stipulating that plants are needed to be grown and solar panels installed in the part of the newly-built roof blocks of commercial areas in the future. Because, it not only can reduce the air pollution, but also may get heat insulation effect of buildings.
Though it is no doubt that France has a long way to go to reduce the amount of electricity generation powered by nuclear power, the speed of French solar photovoltaic development can be more or less accelerated due to this kind of mandatory rules and regulations.
It is estimated that the newly-increased pv installed capacity in France in 2015 is expected to reach 750MW, and the total amount of it would get 6GW!
Science News Journal reported that the Chinese researchers believe that they have found the working approach of electricity generation of solar panels on rainy days. Yes, they are going to utilize the energy of rains. Well, here's what's going on.
According to the paper in international version published on the journal of Applied Chemistry showed that, the key to solve the problem was graphene. Graphene is one material, owning great conductive performance. As long as a layer of graphene rich in electron is added, a large number of electrons would flow on its surface.
When rains fall on graphene, electronics on it and cationic in the rainwater would react. Then, the energy difference would be produced. Thus, the electricity was generated. This means that even if on rainy days, electricity can be generated normally by the solar panels made of graphene.
The researchers wrote in the paper: "The highest conversion efficiency of new solar panels can reach 6.53%."Although this is not a very high efficiency, the author thinks that it’s hopeful that all-weather solar cells could solve the energy crisis.
Let’s first look at three main problems solar power encountered.
1.How to deal with the storage of solar power?
------One of the biggest problems of solar power lies in that it only can be run in the daytime. So, supporters of fossil energy regarded that the fossil energy should be the "basic" power for electricity generation. Because it can guarantee the energy supply of 24 hours a day.
However, this disadvantages are changing. TheNoor-Ouarzazate, the world's largest solar power center is not the photovoltaic power station. On the contrary, a concentrated solar power system (CSP) is used, which is one great potential system providing energy supplies in the absence of sunshine.
The operating principle is as follows:
Hundreds of reflectors are used to concentrate the sun's energy, heating liquid to produce steam to drive the turbine to generate electricity.The liquid can also be used to melt solid salt stored in the tanks. And the salt can maintain enough quantity of heat. Therefore, CSP can continue generating electricity even if at night.
This is a very guaranteed technology. It is predicted by the global energy organization that more than 11% of global energy will be produced by CSP in 2050.
2. About batteries?
------Another major change is the rapid progress of battery technology.Modern family has been able to buy household battery suits to use with solar panels cooperatively, and the purchasing costs are expected to decrease rapidly in the next few years.
ElonMusk (tesla CEO), famous entrepreneur believes that the demand for electricity around the world, will probably reach 2 trillion sets of large batteries.
3. If it is cloudy, what should we do?
------We are easy to understand why many hot and sunny regions to select solar energy to meet its country's energy demands. But does solar energy apply in other places?
If we want to work out the problem, Germany is a good example. Although there are not sunny days throughout the year in Northern European, the Nordic countries come out top in the global solar power generation amount.
Germany's solar power generation capacity can satisfy 1/3 of national electricity demand, and in the summer of 2014, Germany's solar capacity even slightly exceeds its demand. This shows us that solar power is not one technology applying only to those sunny countries.
Solar energy is not the only way to meet the world's energy demand, however it can bring us a lot of a lot benefits.With declining cost of solar energy (refer to the previous article) and further restructuring of the world's energy market, solar energy will definitely play a more important role in the global energy market.
Let’s first see an example.

Of course, the worries of fossil energy and greenhouse effect urge the success of the solar power generation. But when it comes to the main factor of its quick development, price is the most important one.
In many parts of the world, the price of solar power has fallen to a low level, which is very close to that of fossil and natural gas.

And with the rise of coal and gas power generation costs, more renewable energy will be further put into use.
